Tom Dustman, Director of The Studio Singers

The Studio Singers were created by Tom Dustman, Professor of Music at Long Beach City College (CA),
to perform and record Jazz & Pop-Style vocal arrangements. This select company of highly talented singers are auditioned each semester to form one of the country’s premiere college singing groups. The Studio Singers are made up of musicians from all over the United States as well as many International students (Japan, Dominican Republic, South America, Mexico, Sweden). In addition to their annual Spring Tour, they also perform at the “Holiday Concerts” in December and the “Spring Thing” in May. These very popular concert series are held in the beautiful 1,100 seat auditorium at Long Beach City College, corner of Clark St. and Harvey Way. Open auditions for Studio Singers (Mus. 78 AD, Tuesdays & Thursdays 2-4 PM) are held each semester during the first two weeks of classes in room G-122 on the Liberal Arts Campus. Tom Dustman attended both Miami and Bowling Green Universities (Ohio) and has a Bachelors Of Music Education and Masters In Applied Performance. At Long Beach City College, Mr. Dustman also teaches a vocal solo performance class, (Music 74 AD Wed. 1:30 to 4:30 PM), The Evening Jazz Choir (Mus. 44 AD, Wed. 7-9:30 PM) and several advanced small performing groups. In addition to his college responsibilities, Mr. Dustman is the artistic director and singer for the professional vocal group “Beachfront Property,” (Beachfrontmusic.com) whose recordings on Cexton Records are distributed nationally and internationally (cexton.com). Along with headlining performing arts centers throughout the United States, “Beachfront Property” has also performed joint concerts with The Long Beach Symphony and The Pacific Symphony (California), The Buffalo Philharmonic (New York), The Flint Symphony and Grand Rapids Symphony (Michigan) and most recently The Omaha Symphony (Nebraska). Mr. Dustman is also an adjudicator and clinician for jazz festivals throughout the United States and Canada.
